A word about the songs...

Prayers & Invocations” has actually been 4 years in the
making. I tend to have about 7 albums on the go at any one
time, and usually compose, record and film about one new song
per week. Something like that! These songs are invariably spiritually-themed compositions, but I also record cover versions of songs that I love, as well as piano vignettes and instrumental pieces. My debut album “Open Secret” was in 1987 on the New World Music label.

These are all available world-wide on my website, Spotify, Amazon, YouTube, Facebook and so on. But “Prayers & Invocations” is a little bit different in that it is entirely a devotional offering... a gift of gratitude to spirit. In ‘Dear God’ I sing: “I know that you planted a rose in my heart at the dawn of creation, and I offer it to you now.”

One of us’ refers to the mystery of the Christ being coming into Jesus of Nazareth, and how that Christ being is now one of us.

Kyrie Eleison (‘Lord have Mercy’) is my own composition as all these songs are, but there have been many ‘Kyrie’s’ over the centuries, especially in the Russian, Greek & Slavonic liturgies.
Near the end of this piece I sing the Lord’s Prayer in Aramaic, the language spoken by Christ to his disciples. ‘Talking to the angels’ is something I did instinctively as a child. What I know now that I didn’t know then is that they also talk to me!

The Holy Ones’ is adapted from the Book of Enoch in which a vision of eternity, heaven and the spiritual hierarchies is revealed to the seer.

There are 12 tracks, plus 1... and this configuration is archetypal. There are 12 months in 1 year; there were 12 disciples and 1 Master, and 12 Knights of the Round Table and 1 King. The 1 is the whole, and the 12 are the parts. Here the extra track is with Katinka Egres, and we sing: “May your shining star always be with you The road is hard my love, And the journey long, May you always sing your song.”
